Personal, Social, Health and Relationships Education

At our school, we are committed to supporting children’s personal development, wellbeing and emotional health. Through our PSHE (Personal, Social, Health and Economic) education and Relationships and Sex Education (RSE), we help children develop the knowledge, skills and values they need to lead happy, healthy and safe lives.

Our PSHE curriculum helps children build positive relationships, understand their feelings, develop resilience and learn how to make responsible choices.

We teach PSHE using the Jigsaw programme, a whole-school approach that supports children’s personal, social and emotional development.

The programme is organised into six themes which are taught across the year:

• Being Me in My World – understanding belonging, responsibilities and feeling valued

• Celebrating Difference – respecting similarities and differences between people

• Dreams and Goals – setting goals and learning about perseverance

•Healthy Me – learning about physical and mental health and healthy lifestyles

• Relationships – building positive friendships and understanding how to treat others kindly

• Changing Me – learning about growth and change in an age-appropriate way

Relationships and Sex Education (RSE) is taught as part of the Jigsaw programme and focuses on friendships, families, respect, and keeping ourselves safe.

myHappymind

We also use myHappymind, a programme that supports children’s mental health and emotional wellbeing.

Through engaging lessons and activities, children learn about how their brain works and develop important skills to support their wellbeing. The programme helps children to:

• recognise and celebrate their character strengths

• practise gratitude and appreciation

• build confidence and self-esteem

• understand and regulate their emotions

• develop positive habits for wellbeing

These skills help children become more resilient, confident and ready to learn.

Assemblies and School Values

Our assemblies play an important role in supporting children’s personal development. Through stories, discussions and shared learning, assemblies help children deepen their understanding of PSHE themes and explore important life values.

Assemblies are closely linked to our school values:

• Honesty

• Kindness

• Pride

• Ambition

These values help guide children in how they treat others, approach their learning and take pride in themselves and their achievements.
