Wellbeing

We offer support to all our families and have an open door policy. Informally, we are always available for a chat or to answer a question. Class teachers are always available at the beginning and end of the day for you to talk to or share any worries or concerns you may have. We have two highly skilled members of our Pastoral Team, Mrs Claire Purchase and Mrs Hayley Lewis who are our ELSAs.

There will also always a member of the leadership team available to speak to you. Any formal appointment can be booked through the front office at reception.

At Talavera Infant School, we are proud to be a myHappymind school. This award‑winning programme is designed to help children understand their emotions, build confidence, and develop lifelong habits that support positive mental health. MyHappymind is fully aligned with our school values of Kindness, Pride, Ambition and Honesty. The curriculum helps children learn how to look after their minds in the same way they learn to look after their bodies.

What is myHappymind?

myHappymind is a science‑based curriculum that teaches children about:

• Understanding their emotions

• Building confidence and self‑esteem

• Developing resilience

• Recognising their strengths

• Expressing their thoughts and feelings safely

• Showing kindness to themselves and others

The programme uses child‑friendly language, stories, characters and activities to help children learn about their brains, their feelings and how to manage them.

Why we use myHappymind?

We want every child at Talavera Infant School to feel happy, confident and ready to learn. myHappymind supports this by helping children to:

• Feel safe and secure

• Build positive relationships

• Develop a strong sense of identity

• Understand how to calm and regulate their emotions

• Approach challenges with confidence and ambition

These skills support children not only in school, but throughout their lives.

What this looks like in school

Children take part in weekly myHappymind sessions where they learn through:

  •  Stories and characters
  •  Short videos
  •  Mindfulness and breathing techniques
  • Discussions and reflection
  • Activities that build confidence and resilience

You may also hear your child talking about “Happy Breathing”, “Character Strengths” or “Celebrating Me” which are all part of the programme.

Working with families

As a myHappymind school, families also have access to the myHappymind Parent App, which shares the language and strategies children are learning in school. This helps you support your child’s wellbeing at home too.

If you would like help accessing the app or want to know more about the programme, please speak to your class teacher.

The NHS have developed lots of materials to support Young People and Children on their Every Mind Matters website.

Mental Health Support Team (MSHT)

The Mental Health Support Team (MHST) work alongside schools and the Children and Adolescent Mental Health Service (CAMHS) to support children and young people with their mental health and wellbeing.

They help children and parents with a range of different difficulties such as: anxiety, worry, challenging behaviour, phobias, panic attacks, low mood, OCD and single event trauma.

The MHST strive to provide accessible support for families and to avoid children being placed on a waiting lists of up to 18 months.

After being assessed by a trained professional, the MHST can offer children a range of support to enable them to understand and manage their emotions more effectively as well as offering courses to parents and carers so that they are also aware of how to support their children within these difficult situations.

The MHST is here to offer support so if you think this is something that could help you, please contact our office team on the email adminoffice@talavera-inf.hants.sch.uk or speak to a member of staff at school who will assist you with this process.
